Mega Evolution Guide
Mega Evolution is a temporary battle transformation that changes a Pokemon's stats and sometimes its typing and ability. It requires a specific Mega Stone and a trainer Key Stone.
How Mega Evolution works
When a Pokemon Mega Evolves, it transforms for the battle and reverts afterward. The transformation happens once per battle in the main series, and only specific Pokemon have Mega forms. The Pokemon has to hold its matching Mega Stone, and the transformation ends when the battle ends.
What changes
Mega Evolution raises stats a lot, and some forms also change type or ability. That makes a Mega form more than a visual change: it can completely shift the Pokemon's role, damage output, or defensive profile. The new form's ability matters just as much as the stat boost on many sets.
Mega Charizard X vs Y
Mega Charizard X becomes Fire/Dragon and leans physical. Mega Charizard Y stays Fire/Flying and leans heavily into special offense. See Mega Charizard X and Mega Charizard Y.
