Paralysis in Pokemon

Paralysis is a major status condition that cuts Speed and can stop a Pokemon from moving. It is a strong speed-control tool because it changes both turn order and reliability.

How paralysis works

In modern games, paralysis lowers Speed and gives the Pokemon a chance to be fully paralyzed on a turn. That makes it useful both for slowing fast threats and for buying extra turns.

Common paralysis sources

Thunder Wave, Glare, and Nuzzle are common paralysis moves. Contact abilities like Static can also spread paralysis, while Quick Feet and Limber are common paralysis-focused abilities.

How paralysis is cured or blocked

Cheri Berry, Paralyze Heal, Full Heal, and Lum Berry can cure paralysis. Misty Terrain and Limber can also block it.

FAQ

Does paralysis always cut Speed?

In modern games, yes. Speed reduction is the main effect of paralysis.

Can a paralyzed Pokemon still act?

Yes, but it can also be fully paralyzed on a turn and lose its action entirely.

Why do teams use paralysis?

Paralysis helps slower teammates move first and can disrupt fast attackers that rely on tempo.
