Freeze in Pokemon

Freeze is a major status condition that blocks action until the Pokemon thaws. It is the rarest of the major statuses and its exact behavior has changed across generations.

How freeze works

A frozen Pokemon cannot move until it thaws or is cured. In modern games, Ice-type Pokemon are immune to freeze, and the status is much harder to inflict than burn, poison, paralysis, or sleep.

Common freeze sources

Ice Beam, Blizzard, and Tri Attack are common freeze sources. Because freeze is rare, many teams treat it as a bonus rather than a plan.

How freeze is cured or blocked

Aspear Berry, Lum Berry, and Full Heal can cure freeze. Abilities like Magma Armor can block it.
