STAB (Same Type Attack Bonus)

STAB (Same-Type Attack Bonus) gives a damage boost when a Pokémon uses a move that matches its own type.

What is STAB?

If a Pokémon uses a move that matches its type, the move gets a damage multiplier (commonly 1.5x).

FAQ

Does STAB stack for dual types?

Yes. If the move matches either of the Pokémon's types, it receives STAB.

Is STAB always 1.5x?

It depends on the game/mechanics, but 1.5x is the common baseline.

How does STAB work if a move or Pokémon changes type?

If a move or Pokémon changes types, STAB counts the type of the Pokémon and move at the time the move is used. For example, a Pokémon with the ability Protean can change its type, or a weather condition such as rain can change the type of the move Weather Ball.
